Iraq War Cost equates to a 5 time increase in taxes!

Building on McBlogger's post, let's take a little bit of a closer look at these numbers. First of all, Bush has continuously referred to the War in Iraq as the War on Terror. Yes there are terrorists in Iraq, but they have come into Iraq because America invaded their regional neighbor, in defense of Islam. There were no WMD, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Afghanistan, which by the way has been all but written off by the Bush Regime, only accounts for approximately 25% of the spending in this report. And we wonder why we have been unable to catch Osama. Limited Resources = Limited Possibility of Capture.

So what is the deal with the current War Spending? For Iraq alone, the cost for the average family over the last six years comes out to $15,900. When broken down by year, and compared to the average tax burden for a family of four making the median income ($43,200), this equates to about 3 1/2 times the federal income tax for a family of four making the median income (I calculated this the other night, but haven't been able to recreate the number, with subsequent calculations being much lower. What this means is that if the right credits are applied, the tax burden can come out to zero, producing an infinitely higher cost per family for the war). When compared to the total cost, including Afghanistan, that multiplier becomes 5!

Enough of the dry numbers (and I am no statistician, so I make no claim of exactitude). What really gets me is that the Republicans continuously preach that the Democrats are all about taxing. Well, if we were to invest as much in Health Care, Education and every other desperately deficient area in America, many more American's would be able to live long, healthy and happy lives. But, God forbid an increase in health care coverage for children. It is simply more important to pay for 8 days of the Iraq war, at least in the twisted mind of the Bush Regime, than to significantly increase S-CHIP coverage for a whole year!!!
