Stonewall Texas... there's dumb and then there is dumb

Members of the Texas Stonewall Democrats Caucus board met via conference call and NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE WITH REGARD TO PRESIDENT SHANNON BAILEY. Shannon, you may recall, was arrested in Dallas June 15, 2007 for indecent exposure. We've not commented on this because we, being stupid, keep expecting Shannon to do the right thing.

HOWEVER, that hasn't happened yet. What's it going to take, Shannon? And no, I don't want to hear about how the police in Dallas are 'targeting gays'. The reality is they are targeting public fucking. Gay or straight, it doesn't matter.

Hey, you forgot to mention that the Texas Stonewall Democrats Caucus meeting was an UNOFFICIAL, secret meeting. A few executive board members recognized that this meeting was not in accordance with the organization's bylaws and forwarded it out to general members. At the beginning of the call, the vice president told all general members that they could not speak, only board members could, that there would be no notes/no official record of this meeting since it wasn't an official meeting. It's always nice to know the people you helped elect want to silence your opinions/voice, eh??

She proceeded to appoint a facilitator ad-hoc to allow those deemed important enough to state their opinions. The first person who spoke, the TSDC treasurer, took the stage by saying that the one out transgender woman on TSDC board had SRS and we didn't make a big deal of that and alleged another TSDC was convicted of a crime they didn't commit. So, a group that is supposed to be standing up for gay, lesbian, bi and transgender rights considers being transgender on par with allegedly sucking dick in a public place. That's nice, isn't it? The board member he referred to protested. The treasurer later offered an apology for the comment stating I'm sorry but we don't air our dirty laundry. So, at this point, being transgender and having sex reassignment surgery is no longer a crime in this TSDC exec's view, but dirty laundry. She again protested to this, asking for an apology that was just an apology without qualification... he apologized amidst giggles from the other executive board members. Only two executive board members stood up for this woman and expressed a problem with what the treasurer had said. Two. Transgender people across Texas should be outraged, but they will never know about this because there is no record of the meeting.

The Dallas Voice reports that a search of Publicdata.com shows Shannon was cited in 1993 for the same thing (if you look the record up, he seems to have had 1 year probation and a $500 fine and then got non-disclosure for his compliant behavior) -- what's great is that many people on the TSDC executive board have stated that this is just a RUMOR. Never mind that there are verifiable records, or anything...

Finally, the call concluded with the vice president stating that everyone should keep in mind that she is not ready to lead the organization, that she doesn't have much experience and she would be learning on the job in case they were thinking of removing Shannon. The next time you're on an airplane, when you’re seated in the emergency exit row, tell the flight attendant “I’m sorry, I don’t have a lot of experience…” when he asks if you are ready, willing and able to assist. See what happens to you… you are asked to vacate your seat and relocate to a seat you are more comfortable in (which, by my count, we have at least 3 TSDC leaders who should follow suit).
