This guy for Surgeon General? Why not just nominate Dobson.
Connecticut native George W. Bush has nominated Dr. James W. Holsinger Jr. to be our next Surgeon General. Let's just say that he's one of those doctors who still thinks that homosexuality is a disease. He's also one of the people who has helped keep the United Methodist Church (of which I'm a member) not exactly friendly to it's LGBT members.
As a member of the church's Judicial Council, Dr. Holsinger voted with the majority to boot a lesbian from her post as a minister and to allow ministers to deny church membership to gay men and lesbians. It is not our place to tell religions what their beliefs should or should not be. But that stricture does not apply when bigotry masquerades as science. Dr. Holsinger prepared "Pathophysiology of Male Homosexuality" for the Committee to Study Homosexuality of the United Methodist Church, which was discussing whether to end the church's stance of not condoning homosexuality. Pathophysiology was defined as "abnormal function."
As a member of the UMC, I don't want this guy anywhere near my church anymore. Let's not even mention his 'Gay Conversion' project, Hope Springs
Another point of contention during Holsinger's nomination process was his affiliation with the Hope Springs Community Church, a United Methodist church. The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and other LGBT health organizations expressed concern of Holsinger’s association with the church because of allegations that it condones reparative therapy. The church's pastor, David Calhoun was quoted as saying the church “ministers to people who no longer wish to be gay or lesbian.”
Yeah, not so much with this clown as Surgeon General. The HRC also thinks he's a the wrong person for the job. They have a petition up that you should really go sign.
