Hummer : Run nationwide in 2008
My friend Karita Hummer has an excellent post up on the John Edwards blog and her desire to see Democrats mount another 50 state strategy in 2008. Given how well it turned out in 2006, I don't think it's a tough sell.
What does the Democratic Party not get about this? Why the failed strategy of the last two decades, in which the South and virtually the West were written off in their campaign strategies, hardly visited and certainly not inspired and encouraged. Not until Howard Dean, as Chair of the Democratic Party, have we seen any real attempt to reach out to all fifty states. And how, were we in the grassroots not informed about this strategy for failure? The Democratic Party virtually ceded the South and the West, paid scant attention to Alaska and Hawaii and we call ourselves the Democratic Party, while not being democratic. What an insulting strategy and what a failed strategy!!Like John Edward says, it is time, way past time, for the Democratic party to act Democratic and democratic again.
