Bad Republican Talking Points (23678th ed.)

I've seen this a few times recently, leading up to the election. However, I heard this on CNBC Friday. Which leads me to believe they are going to stick with this crap.

Basically, the talking point goes that the rich pay more in taxes now than they did in 2000. They do, in percentage terms. However, saying that without exploring the reason why is the biggest reason that Republicans will continue to lose. Here's the nitty gritty... the rich ARE paying more as an overall percentage of federal tax receipts. They are doing so because while their rates have been cut their income has gone up dramatically. The other 99% of us (you, me and everyone else who doesn't own a Gulfstream V and a Bentley)
have seen our incomes remain stagnant or drop a little. Which means that even if taxes had remained constant, we'd be paying less. The tax cuts were meaningless for us.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want to see marginal tax rates of 80% again on the wealthiest Americans. However, don't bullshit us, Republicans. you screwed us over with those tax cuts. We see it on our paystubs every two weeks.
