The Debate : Holy Shit, are we ever in trouble
Seriously, this is the best we can do?
I went to Psycho Beach Party last night and wasn't able to see the debate until I got home a little after 1:00. It helped that I was quite drunk, otherwise I would have been tempted to cry.
First off, yes, Bell won. Hands fucking down. Still, that doesn't mean he knocked the ball out of the park as you have to think of this in the context of the overall clusterfuck. The format sucked ass, as did the questioners and the moderator ("moving on" ). Honestly, I wanted the entire set to burst into flames and take everyone, sans Bell, onto their great reward. Bell's performance, in relation to the pitiable antics of Strayhorn, Perry and Matzo, was great. But ONLY in that context. Had there been real people on that stage we would all be caling for Chris Bell's head. Instead, there were three retards and Chris Bell. He couldn't help but look good, even if it did at times appear that his battery was running down.
Only in a race like this can boring be considered good enough. The sad thing is that Chris is witty, quick and very personable none of which came across last night and all of which are endearing to voters. While it's a shame that Republicans and Independents didn't get to see that Chris Bell last night, I'm thinking enough D's saw it to close ranks and 'ring the Bell'. His policy was solid, he stayed on message and while he wasn't as pointed in his comments toward Perry (come on! If ever there was a time to call Perry a miserable failure it was last night. Chris, you missed an opportunity to dress down Perry and make him your bitch last night) he stood head and shoulders above the crowd as the voice of sanity.
Why am I so dissapointed in Bell last night? He missed an opportunity to overwhelm these clowns. Last night he could have secured himself an unassailable lead. Instead, he'll edge ahead but it'll still be close. What Texans are hungry for is the one thing Bell has to offer... leadership. I've seen it in him when talks about education and stem cell research. Last night, that fire wasn't evident.
Perry... oh, you fuckwit. Way to lie your way through an hour. For one thing, voters NEVER approved the TTC, you have screwed over rural Texans and we can all see in your 'transparent' finance report that you've been bought and paid for by folks like Bob Perry (whose people sit on your 'homeowner's commission'), James Leininger and the nice folks at Cintra and Zachry. Yeah, we can see the whole dirty, sordid mess and WE HATE YOU. You talked about all the things you wanted to do in another term, none of which sound all that great, without even a hint of irony. You've been Governor for SIX MOTHERFUCKING YEARS. In that time Texas has slid to the bottom of the list in a lot of categories and it's not just how you look at the statistics, dickhead. You've been nothing but a complete and total failure... little more than the bitch of Dewhurst and Craddick. You are far too weak a personality to be in the mansion.
You can't even pick and appropriate suit to wear to a debate. Three-button? What are you, trying to recapture your twenties? You're far too long in the tooth to wear a coat like that.
OSB... it's really like kicking a puppy. 'In a Strayhorn Administration...' needs to tatooed on her forehead. Girl, you suck. This isn't your year and this is not your race. Honestly, only Kinky looked worse. Her lack of knowledge was impressive, as was her disregard for anything real. I did like how combative she was with Perry but other than that there wasn't anything likable about her.
Matzo... Dick, it's time to hang up that smelly hat, stub out the cigar and get on down the road. It was obvious to everyone last night just how tired your schtick is and how thoroughly unequal you are to the task of governing the second largest state in the nation. Please, either step down or go on that last, great, bender. Whatever you do, just go away.
This was mediocrity on display. I had someone tell me that they thought Bell looked the most like a statesman. Yes, in comparison to the other assholes, he definitely looked like a statesman. Compared to true statesman, not so much. What Bell is offering is a victory this year; Balance and sanity to a political animal run amok. He's not offering the kind of electric shock that the people of Texas (well, over 60% of them, at any rate) are looking for. That's what most dissapoints me about him and how he's running this race.... he has the opportunity this year to advance the ball 80 yards. Instead, we'll be lucky to make first down.
Texans are looking for a leader and Bell's the closest they are going to get.

Dude... I did and he was still stiff. Seriously, he's very lucky OSB and Matzo cratered the way they did. It was NOT a beat down, PD. Granted he did a good job but a large part of that was the retarded nature of the other players.
He has GOT to get past some of the stiffness. He needs to go off script more often.
Look, I've seen Chris be better. That's the Chris I tell R friends about. Then they see this and I look like a fuckall idiot. Yeah, they agreed he won but they didn't see how good he can be.
BOTTOM LINE, HE DOESN'T NEED TO ACT LIKE AN ANIMATRON TO GET ELECTED AND I WISH THE STAFFER TELLING HIM THAT WOULD STFU.
