Travis Repubs running on fumes
Back to the Slag for some GOP trash talk...
Old-timers might wonder how the Rs landed at Scholz Garten, the close-by-the-Capitol hangout long cherished by liberals. Sally Aiello, the county party's executive director, reminded that the party had 2002 and 2004 kickoffs there, adding: "We're kicking the liberals out of downtown and celebrating November victories early."
With brave words like those, you'd think they'd actually be running someone against Elliot Naishtat... or Kirk Watson.
The Republicans have two candidates for state representative from Travis County, four court of appeals candidates, two District Court judge hopefuls and a county clerk nominee.
Until a few weeks ago, of course, they did have three state rep candidates, until Ben "Douchebag" Bentzin cut and ran. If someday they're able to recruit a few more candidates, they might begin to rival the Libertarians for influence.
Still, I have no doubt that some Travis County republicans still dream of herding their Volvo-driving Birkenstok-shod neighbors into an internment camp someday. I just hope it has a smoking section; McBlogger and Sister Ruth will be getting pretty cranky after about ten minutes of re-education.
