YA BASTA! Richie wins, but we won't give up!
Second ballot is done. Urbina-Jones asked his supporters to vote for change and apparently they just kinda decided to ignore him (yeah, Bruce Barrick, I'm talking about you). So, Richie wins. I don't have the offical totals yet and probably won't post them even when they're available... seriously, in a day or two who will give a shit?
The informal count in the TC bullpen was 52-48. So, while it may be a loss, there are a lot of people in this state who WANT CHANGE. Hopefully, Boyd will look at that and make the TDP what we all hope it can be... and he CAN count on us for any help he needs. We all know that Travis County is 'different' but if there's anything we can do to help, believe me we'll do it. After all, our Democratic Senator and Representatives will need some assistance in the next session.
When Glen got up to concede, K-T leaned over to me and said "At least we're getting Glen back in Austin for the coordinated campaign".
Now, I think I'm going to proxy and bail, if I can. I want food. And drinks. Lots of drinks. Congratulations, Chairman Richie!

Please keep in mind that Glen actually won the votes of the people on the floor. He lost the delegate vote due to the apportionment system. A very good sign indeed, and, hopefully, quite a bit of leverage for creating change and infrastructure in the state party. Above all, the point of Glen's campaign was that we want to help Democrats across the state work better!

Victoria ain't Austin by any means, and we went for Glen too, in a big way. We had six people, by my count, in SD18, who voted Richie, and because some Maxey people wandered off (and, oh, they will have to deal with me), Richie got an extra seven of our votes on the second tally (those six, plus a different ratio of Richie-to-Maxie votes applied to missing votes). A small thing, but so aggravating.
Although I'm very disappointed, I don't want to give up either. Where can I go to hang out with other folks who ain't giving up? (Yes, I realize a drive will be involved.)

Maxey won in Montgomery County by a wide margin (MC is in North Houston, definitely a Republican stronghold). And yes, I voted for him too (was finally convinced on Saturday morning).
I hope the TDP will pay attention to the energy of Glen's campaign, also the obvious fact that he was able to pull in a LOT of younger activists. Condolences to Glen and his supporters for the loss (although it WAS close!) ... I hope that at least some of the momentum I experienced will be continued over the midterm elections. Oh, and I second the comment before mine ... there are a LOT of DFA (Democracy for America) folks in Houston.
