Republicans switching sides?
As a reformed Republican (please... save the shitty jokes unless you're buying me drinks) I can say clearly that today's Republican Party is NOT THE ONE I SUPPORTED. Yes, I was never a bible thumper (we tossed them out of the Methodist Church... no drinking losers!) and though I've always wanted a small government, I don't want to drown it in a bathtub. In fact, I LONG for 70's style regulation again because corporate power, left unchecked, will KILL people. Hyperbole? Not so much. Corporations today DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT CONSUMERS, because you'll buy their shit anyway. Today it's not about the long term, it's the short term baby and we're all getting the shaft. That's got to change.
I often tell people that they shouldn't lose faith because of an election loss. If my mind was changed, clearly others can be as well. Now we're starting to see it. I got this from a friend of mine in Kansas City today.
"Our leaders continue to bring this state together to make progress—and today Governor Sebelius has brought another great leader into our party. I am proud to tell you that Governor Kathleen Sebelius has chosen Mark Parkinson as the future Lieutenant Governor for Kansas. As many of you know, Mark Parkinson served as chair of the Kansas Republican Party from 1999 to 2003.
During the last three years, Mark has recognized that Kansas Democrats and Governor Sebelius are leading the way to bring our state together.
Here's the KDP website with more details.
This is the kind of thing I think we'll start seeing in Texas very soon. For one thing, the Harris County Republicans are all in a tiff and their little Convention down in SA is flying like a lead balloon. More and more voters are going to start to switch and then you have the stuff that creates landslides and voter mandates.
See y'all next weekend in Fort Worth! Oh, and by the way... would someone let Tina know she's NOT welcome to switch sides?!

mcblogger, I support your delimna. The Republicans boast of 'smaller government' such as thru deregulation (you're right on with that, but you forgot about unchecked mergers that make the almighty corporation all bigger and monopolistic!!!), but increase the government by adding departments and cabinets. How big is Homeland Security these days??? I mean, we have the coast guard, military, fbi, secret service, and CIA. Although they don't talk to one another, did we need another dept. layer to the fed governement to make them talk? Did any of this really help with our flood disasters, or was that just Bush's good buddy that took the fall? If the republican just stuck to what they say they promote and stop paying concerns to special interests and pissing off too many countries, then maybe the Repubs could be respectible. I'm not proud to be one. I'm sure the Dems will be stupid again and find a way to lose this election and then blame the voting process, the one that got Bill two terms as Prez. who knows. Can we all just get along???
