PPC endorses Richie, members walk out

Lot's of 'new' members at the PPC Caucus. By new I mean they were new to the caucus but for the most part they were old. No, not walking frame old but definitely a little long in the tooth. Any suprise that they'd all be voting for Boyd Richie?

That's right boys and girls, the PROGRESSIVE POPULIST CAUCUS, a misnomer if ever there was one, voted to endorse Boyd Richie. Yours truly and the Mayor tried to kill the motion in concert with Sonia Santana (who fucking ROCKS!) but it failed. There were motions to table the endorsement that mysteriously failed. Then there was a motion to adjourn but the dickhead at the lectern was hell bent on continuing the meeting. Meanwhile, most of the Richie-ites abandoned the meeting as soon as the fix was in AND WALKED OUT.

What was so important that we could ignore Robert's Rules and rush to the next item on the Agenda? VERIFIED VOTING. The irony was lost on no one.

When the PPC decides to endorse a candidate who's neither progressive, nor populist you have to know something's up. The rumors are everywhere that Boyd has promised things he can't possibly deliver and like the good little lemmings they are, they're falling for it. Hook, line and sinker.

I resent the use of the phrase "good little lemmings" (reference to the PPC) is not really acccurate. There are a number of us (I'll speak for Houston PPCers) who were not pleased at the PROCESS used in the voting for this motion.

For that matter, even the resolution itself (which was actually introduced a few weeks ago at a PPC meeting) was met with a lot of dissident discussion.

I ask those reading about this process (the endorsement) not to judge PPC as an organization just based on this one event. If you take the time to read the PPC site

http://www.texaspopulists.com/

you will see that we've been working hard for the general benefit of the party (e.g., the production of Precinct Chair training materials and open offers to teach same).

Bottom line: lemmings obviously don't lead. And with PPCers like David VanOs (who co-founded the PPC) I think we've demonstrated our commitment to progressive issues and on-the-ground activism.

Possibly... I'll think about editing the post. However, I AM A MEMBER OF THE PPC and thought the whole thing was ridiculous. Especially the asshole running the meeting who just decided to ignore Robert's Rules. Granted, I've never been a big fan of rules, but it was just sad.

Let's face it, Boyd's folks just did a slightly better job of packing the meeting than Maxey's. Of course, at least the Maxeyites would actually count as progressives. You couldn't say that about Mary Beth Malcolm. I'm surprised her credentials didn't burst into flame when she put the PPC sticker on them.

I'm still livid. I'll be sure to let everyone when we hold the first meeting of the Communist Kitten Killer Caucus. *snort*
